Spicy Cabbage Slaw

This recipe is super easy. Even easier if you have a food processor so you can slice all of your veggies in seconds. Cabbage is one of those vegetable that has a bad rap for being hard to use. I love it for its crunch and mild flavor. This spicy cabbage slaw will change the way you think about coleslaw. It has a unique flavor that comes from the oregano and chili. The traditional version has no onions and varies in heat level. In LA, you can’t have an authentic fish taco without shredded cabbage, or a papusa without the slaw, and I will use any excuse to eat a bowl of it.


3/4 head of white cabbage finely chopped
1.5 large carrots shredded
1.5 tsp. celery salt
1 tsp. chili flake
1 tbs. dried Mexican oregano
1/4 cup thinly sliced purple onions ( 1/2 rounds )
1/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar

Toss all ingredients together.
Serves 4
